# ASME B31.8 (2018)

ASME B31.8 (2018) - covers the design, fabrication, installation, inspection, and testing of pipeline facilities used for the transportation of gas. Chapters 833.1 - 833.6 are implemented.

## Options

Pipe Boundary Condition Type - set if pipe is restraint or not (Chapter 833.1.). Used in calculations of longitudinal stress in Chapter 833.2;

Pipe Internal Pressure - internal pressure of pipe, in Pa;

Pipe Temperature at the Time of Installation - the pipe temperature at the time of installation T_{1}, in C (Chapter 833.2);

Warmest or Coldest Pipe Operating Temperature - The warmest or coldest pipe operating temperature T_{2}, in C (Chapter 833.2);

Type (Table E-1. Mandatory Appendix E) - according to Table E-1. Mandatory appendix E. In case of straight pipe equation from chapter 833.2 (d) is used;

Out-of-Plane Element Axis - local element axis which is out of pipe bend plane;

Bend Radius of Welding Elbow Or Pipe Bend - Bend radius of welding elbow or pipe bend, in m. Mandatory appendix E. Table E-1. If not required for calculation - value should be equal to 0;

One-half Angle Between Adjacent Miter Axes - One-half angle between adjacent miter axes, in deg. If not required for calculation - value should be equal to 0;

Miter Spacing at Centerline - Miter spacing at centerline, in m. If not required for calculation - value should be equal to 0;

Location Class - location class for design and construction (Chapter 840.2.2);

Temperature (Table 841.1.8-1) - temperature according to Table 841.1.8-1 to take respective temperature derating factor T (Chapter 841.1.1);

Pad or Saddle Thickness - Pad or saddle thickness, in m. If not required for calculation - value should be equal to 0;

Radius of Curvature - Radius of curvature of external contoured portion of outlet, measured in the plane containing the axes of the header and branch, in m. If not required for calculation - value should be equal to 0;

Coefficient of Thermal Expansion - The coefficient of thermal expansion, 1/C;

## Factors

Load factor (k) - for long duration loads k=0.9, short duration k=1 (Chapter 833.4 b and c);

Longitudinal Joint Factor (Table 841.1.7-1) - Longitudinal joint factor obtained from Table 841.1.7-1. Used in calculations of design pressure in Chapter 841.1.1;

Out-of-Plane Stress Intensification Factor - out-of-plane stress intensification factor from Mandatory Appendix E Table E-1. If a value is equal to 0 - factor will be calculated according to Table E-1. User defined value will be used otherwise;

In-Plane Stress Intensification Factor - in-plane stress intensification factor from Mandatory Appendix E Table E-1. If a value is equal to 0 - factor will be calculated according to Table E-1. User defined value will be used otherwise;

Design Factor (Df) - design factor = 0.32 or 0.40 for PA-11. The design factor is a number less than or equal to 1 that is multiplied by the calculated maximum pressure to obtain the design pressure. Chapter 842.2.1;

## Yield and Tensile

Standard uses material data (Yield/Tensile) in calculations. Wizard checks if the values are defined for all materials.
