Eurocode3 Connections (EN 1993-1-8, 2005)

Eurocode3 Connections (EN 1993-1-8, 2005) gives design methods for the design of joints subject to predominantly static loading using steel grades S235, S275, S355 and S460. Chapter 7 is implemented for uniplanar, unreinforced connections.

EN 1993-1-8, 2005

Note: List of supported connections:

  • CHS chord and CHS, RHS or I-Beam braces;
  • RHS chord and CHS or RHS braces;
  • I-Beam chord and CHS or RHS braces;

To add the Standard execute Standards - Main - Eurocode3 - Eurocode3 Connections (EN 1993-1-8, 2005) from the ribbon:

EC3 Connections | SDC Verifier

Connection Checks are calculated on Connections. With the help of Connection Finder tool, it is possible to automatically recognize Chords and Braces with their dimensions.

By default, all supported Connections are included in the selection but it can be changed by pressing . If connections were not recognized press to run Connection Finder tool.

Press to Set Standard Custom Settings

Standard uses material data (Yield/Tensile) in calculations. Wizard checks if the values are defined for all materials.

Standard uses in-plane and out-of-plane bending stresses of brace and chords that are calculated by Brace Stress Tool and type of brace that depends on loading conditions and are calculated by Brace Classification Tool.

Factors

Gamma M0 - Partial factor. EN 1993.1.1. Chapter 6. Ultimate limit states;

Gamma M5 - Resistance of joints in hollow section lattice girder. Recommended value by National Annex = 1.00;

Options

Brace Type Method - use brace type of selected method that are calculated by Brace Classification Tool;

Manufacture Method - Cold Formed or Hot Finished. Used in determination of buckling curve for CHS and RHS members (EN 1993-1-1, Table 6.2);

Material Type - type of material that is used in determination of buckling curve of the members (EN 1993-1-1, Table 6.2). Material s460 has different classification then the other types;

Lambda Ov Limit - Overlap percentage limit, in % (Chapter 7.1.2 (6)). Recommended values by the standard: 60% in case the hidden seam of the overlapped brace is not welded. 80% in case the hidden seam of the overlapped brace is welded;

I Beam root radius - curved radius of I Beam cross section at the intersection of a flange and a web, in model units;
